Email campaign to raise urgent concerns about backtracking from our political leaders
6th October 2023
We are deeply concerned that our political leaders are underestimating the twin crises of air pollution and climate change and therefore disregarding our children’s futures.
In recent months our Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has stated that he is “on the motorist’s side”, U-turned on commitments to phase out new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, supported the approval of the Rosebank oil and gas field, scrapped the Birmingham to Manchester HS2 leg and issued a “Plan for Drivers” that appears to prioritise the needs of drivers over other road users.
Sir Keir Starmer’s backtracking on Labour’s support for clean air zones and lack of will to revoke Rosebank’s licence if elected, alongside a lack of a clear plan to clean up the air indicates there is little support from the opposition for strong action on air pollution and emissions.
Today’s leaders are not taking responsibility for protecting our children while their lungs are vulnerable and growing or for the future of our environment. In the run-up to the next general election, these issues need to rise to the top of the agenda.
Please join us in expressing your thoughts on the above using our updated template emails to the Prime Minister and Sir Keir Starmer.
